What Are The Side Effects Of Malarone?

Hi, I have been taking malarone for 4 weeks as I was in a malaria risk area. I have now been home and off of the medication for over a week. I also take the contraceptive pill- is there any risk that this is not currently as effective as I was taking malarone? I know doxycycline affects the pill for up to 4 weeks but I cannot find any guidance that says malarone has any impact on the pill. Thanks

Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

I understand your concern.

Malarone contain two anti-malarial drugs namely, atovaquone and proguanil which is used for treatment and prophylaxis of P. faliciperum malaria.
There is no evidence of any interaction between oral contraceptive pills and Malarone. It has not shown to decrease the effect of OC pills like Doxycycline.
You have not mentioned the name and content of the contraceptive pill you are taking. Still, I would advise you the continue your pill as per schedule and be assured that its effect is not affected.

Hope this will be helpful.
Do ask if any further question is there.
Take care.
