What Are The Side Effects Of Morphine?

My husband has lung cancer and is on hospice. He is taking .2cc of morphine every four hours. His tongue has changed its texture and is red and has fairly deep grooves in it. His lips are also swollen. Could this be from the morphine he is taking?

Hi
Thanks for your query.
I appreciate your concern for your husband.

Morphine is known to cause the following side effects:

Vomiting, constipation, itching, fall in BP, respiratory depression,
physical & psychological dependence.

Apparently your husband has developed an allergic reaction which is reflected in the form of swollen lips and gums.

Give him some antihistamines like Levocetrizine and consult his treating doctor for the use of other medicines to relieve his pains.

Hope this answers your query.
