What Are The Side Effects Of Norfloxacin?

Have made trips to India in the past. On each occasion, caught giardia, developed an allergy to metronidazole treatment. Friend suggested taking norflox tz , 1 daily, to prevent catching the bug. Any side effects? how effective for prophylaxis? best place to buy? generic available and efficacious?

Hi,
I understand your query.
Giardiasis can not be prevented by any drug. Norflox TZ , your friend has suggested, has Norfloxacin ( used for bacterial infection) & Tinidazole- which is effective to control giardiasis in full prescribed dose. It has lesser side effects than metranidazole , & used when metranidazole is not tolerated/ giardia are resistant to it.
If used in low dose, infection may get resistant & not effective when needed.
Prevention of giardiasis can be by-
-washing hands after visiting toilets/using tissue paper, before eating.Alcohol based hand sanitizers are good.
-Use boiled water to drink/ use bottled water in tarvel.
- avoid swallowing water while swimming.
- Use of condom in anal sex.
Thanks.
