I ve been prescribed Oxybutynin Chloride 5 mg pills, one tablet by mouth twice per day. I m worried about side effects. Can I drive? Will I be drowsy? I m 80, male, still recovering from a TURP 3-months ago, experiencing need to urinate about every hour. My Urologist has prescribed these pills? Please use my email address ONLY for answering above.

Hi,

Oxybutynin Chloride is a medication used to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as frequent urination and incontinence. Common side effects of the drug include dry mouth, constipation, and drowsiness. It's important to follow your doctor's instructions and refrain from driving or operating heavy machinery if you feel drowsy or impaired.

It's also important to let your doctor know if you experience severe or bothersome side effects. As you are 80 years old and still recovering from TURP, it's best to follow your doctor's instructions, and don't hesitate to reach out to your Urologist if you have any concerns.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
