Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Most lower urinary tract infections (LUTI) get better within the first few days. Treatment with drugs like Amoxicillin - Clavulanate may require more time than with other drugs (like quinolones). When the treatment seems to fail, the diagnosis may be reconsidered. If the most likely diagnosis continues to be a LUTI then the next step -regarding treatment- will be a quinolone like Ciprofloxacin - unless contraindicated. A urine culture may help sometimes. Please keep in mind that having taken antibiotics before giving the urine sample is against a positive culture even when a pathogen is present.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
