What Are The Side Effects Of Emergency Contraceptive Pills?

Dear Sir,

I am a 29 year old professional. I and my fiancé want to have sex for the first time. It may happen after 20 days after her menstruation. However we both are not comfortable to use a condom. So, we fear about the possibility of Unwanted Pregnancy. We are opting for Emergency Contraceptive Pills available in the market. But we are not known about the effectiveness of these pills to stop the unwanted pregnancy. So, can we 100 percent trust on these pills? By taking these pills is there is any kind of side effect to her or to her monthly menstruation? What is the safe procedure to take these pills?

Sir, kindly guides us to how to avoid the unwanted pregnancy and to have a safe sex. If there is any better suggestion please inform us

Thanks & Regards

Hello Sanjay
This is first time for you and your fiancee , so I recommend oral contraceptive ( containing DESOGESTREL+ETHINYLESTRADIOL ) .
How to take these tablet :
Oral contraception :Dosing instruction may vary according to the brand.
For 21 tablet pack:Start dose on 1st day of menstrual cycle, 1 tablet daily for 21 days followed by 7 pill-free days.
Start a new pack on the 8th day after the last tablet is taken.
For 28 day pack:Start dose on 1st day of menstrual cycle , 1 tablet daily w/o interruption .DOSE SHOULD BE TAKEN AT THE SAME TIME EVERYDAY .
Usually these tablets don't have side effects except minor G I discomfort like nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness or enlargement or secretions, depression but these are minor so benefit is more , so your fiancee can take these tablet as an OTC product .
If she feel any major side effect or change then consult a doctor and stop tablet at once.
Hope this will help you.
Now you should wait till 1st day of menstrual cycle and start tablet and free to do sex.
Good luck.
