Hello Sue
This is Dr. Ervis Davidhi answering to your question.
The side effects are Insomnia, nausea, increased sweating,
sexual dysfunction (ejaculation disorder [primarily ejaculatory delay], decreased libido,
anorgasmia), fatigue, somnolence.
The problem of stopping is
withdrawal symptoms.
Withdrawal effects (e.g., dysphoric mood, irritability, agitation,
dizziness, sensory disturbances [e.g., paresthesias, such as
electric shock sensations], anxiety, confusion, headache, lethargy, emotional lability, insomnia, hypomania, tinnitus, seizures) reported following discontinuance of escitalopram, particularly when discontinuance was abrupt. Events generally self-limiting.
Taper dosage gradually; monitor patients by the doctor who gave the prescription for withdrawal symptoms when discontinuing therapy. If intolerable symptoms occur following dosage reduction or discontinuance, consider reinstituting previously prescribed dosage then resume more gradual dosage reductions.
Glad to be of help.
