What Are The Side Effects Of Long-term Intake Of Adderall?

Hello, Dr. Rynne. I m worried about someone who is taking Adderall every other day. He has had a few headaches, but they may be due to a concussion suffered 6 months ago. In any case, it s extremely unwise for anyone to take Adderall regularly, isn t it? Nancy

Hi,

Adderall (combination of Amphetamine & Dextro-amphetamine) -Amphetamine on chronic use can cause the following adverse effects:
* Cardiovascular: Palpitations; tachycardia; hypertension; arrhythmias.
* CNS: Hyperactivity; dizziness; restlessness; tremors; insomnia; euphoria; headache.
* DERM: Urticaria.
* EENT: Dry mouth; unpleasant taste.
* GI: Diarrhea; constipation; anorexia. GU: Impotence.

Dextroamphetamine on regular use can also cause similar adverse reactions. Adderall is mainly used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy. Adderall has high potential for dependence and abuse. It is strictly a prescription drug and very limited indication.
