Hi my name is Julie, my mother is 60 years old and is on hormone replacements, she still has regular periods, but this week has had her period every second day. she and I are both concerned and I was wondering if it was just her menopause and her period finally coming to an end, could you please help?
I am Dr Madhuri a consultant gynecologist and will be helping you.
If your mother is on HRT and is getting the periods then these periods are not natural periods but periods due to HRT. If she is taking HRT it itself means that already she is menopausal.
So if there are irregular periods with HRT, it is not menopause but the HRT that is causing the irregular bleeding. I suggest that you see your doctor and get her evaluated for the cause of bleeding as well as a sonography to check the status of her uterine lining. The lining tends to get thick with HRT. So please get these checked and the doctor will guide you about further treatment.
Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist
