hello doctor, actually i was treated for rheumatic fever and i had swelling in my heart s valve, i am taking penidure 12LA frm last 12 years, now i am 22 years old, can u tell me up-till when do i have to take this inj. and what r the side-effects of this inj.

Hi,

You seem to have rheumatic heart disease with involvement of the heart valves. As per the guidelines of the American Heart Association patients with rheumatic fever and residual heart disease (persistent valvular disease) injection Penidure 12 LA should be given every 4 weeks until age 40 years and sometimes lifetime prophylaxis may be needed. Its common side effects include pain at the site of injection, edema, headache and bleeding.
