What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Folic Acid Tablets?

Hi, I am advised to take folic acid and calcimax 500. With only folic acid I have been feeling lots of disorder in my motion. I am going 3-4 times that too with lots of stomach pain and motion is total liquid. Due to this fear I have not started calcimax yet. Are these effects on motion normal. What time can I take calcimax.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
I understand your concern and I would like to help you.
I do not know how much folic acid you are taking. Most people do not experience any side effects with the recommended dose of 0.4mg per day.
High doses of folic acid can cause side effects like abdominal cramps, diarrhea, rash, sleep disorders, irritability, confusion, nausea, stomach upset, behavior changes, skin reactions, seizures, gas and excitability.
So reduce your dose if you are taking more than 0.4 mg per day.
Calcimax contains Calcium carbonate which may cause abdominal pain. As you already have abdominal pain it would be better to take less irrtant forms of calcium like calcium gluconate or calcium citrate.
If you have further queries for me, you can search for me at HCM web site and am ready to answer them.
Take care
Dr. Noble Zachariah
