What Are The Side-effects Of The Steroids For Poly And Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Hello Sir,
My mother aged 48 years has been diagnosed for Polyarthrities and Rhamatoid Arthrities, now doctors has suggested many medicines that contains a STERIODS in it, hence she gaining weight day by day.
Doctors has suggested to continue the same treatment for next 4 months, Could you please let me know whether this treatment will have any adhere side effects? and also is there any way she can control the weight gain?
You are quite right in thinking as steroid can cause weight gain and it can be difficult to control. Not only this but they can also causes cataract, poor immunity and infections, osteoprosis. So my suggestion to you is that you should not see a good rheumatologist rather then showing her to a physcian. There are drugs which are available for substituting steroids like SAAZ,HCQ, Methotrexate and so on, So I would recommend you to start these medicines. If pain is very bad and steroids has to be taken then take it in as small doses as possible and should be taper of as early as possible. I would also recommend you to take calcium and vitamin B 12 supplements so that side effects of steroids will be bare minimum.
