What Are The Side Effects Of Withdrawal From Long Term Use Of Premarin?
My mom (83 yrs) had a hysterecomy over 30 yrs ago and was on Premarin for the past 30 yrs. with no problems, in fact it help her from getting osteoperosis. Her Dr told her a few months ago she did not need Premarin any longer and to her off cold turkey. She is in so much pain now, I think she is having withdrawal symptoms. What are the side effect of withdrawal from Premarin after 30 yrs ??? She need help.
It is good that it has been discontinued after this prolonged time.
Because it is not in the category of medications associated with addiction and dependence, discontinuation of premarin is not normally associated with withdrawal.
Some women, however, may have recurrence of menopausal symptoms after it is stopped but this should not occur at your mother's age.
While some women tolerate sudden discontinuation, others may have these menopausal symptoms.
You may want to have her assessed to find out if there are any other causes of her pain.
I hope this helps
