What Are The Signs Of Menopause?

I am 52 years old this year and haven t had a proper period in almost two years. Over the last month I have experienced dark staining and over the last few days my breasts and stomach have suddenly become very bloated. Although this is uncomfortable it is not painful. What is going on with me - is it the menopause ? This morning I also had a huge poisonous spot on my left armpit . Sorry I do not have the money to pay for an answer - so sorry to have bothered you.

Hello,

You are in the menopausal phase & are experiencing signs of menopause. Irregular menstruation or absence of menstruation are the main signs.

Other symptoms that may be associated with the menopausal phase is irritability, hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, insomnia, vaginal dryness, reduced sex drive, etc.

Sometimes it may get complicated with osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, breast cancer, cognitive changes or heart problems.

Menopause is a normal physiological process through which all women have to go through. There's nothing to panic or get upset about.

Take well-balanced diet, exercise, avoid stress, take adequate sleep, stay hydrated, stay active, make new friends, enjoy life.

You can take vitamin E rich food or vitamin E supplements & use vaginal lubricants to maintain an enjoyable sex life.

You can take a Counselor's help to stay away from anxiety & emotional disturbances. If you have other hormonal issues you can take HRT, stay connected with your treating doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
