What Are The Spider Veins On My Thigh During Pregnancy?
im 33 1/2 weeks pregnant, and on my feet alot as a server. i have noticed about two weeks ago, in my thighs my spider veins are now blue ...looking like a bruise, its like looking at a lady s leg who is 60 or something. i m 31, is this normal and could it possibly fade back to how they were before pregnancy. i weigh 120 usually, and now 33 1/2 weeks pregnant weighing in at 137?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I have read your query & understand your concern. The veins in leg get tortuous & in later weeks of pregnancy due to hampered venous drainage from lower extremity ( gravitational cause & weight gain ) during pregnancy ( varicose veins ) . This is a temporary phase. It mostly disappears after delivery. * Please avoid itching , ( Varicoseties have tendency to cause itching-- ulceration thereafter ) * There is average weight gain of 11 Kgs in pregnancy. You seem to have put on a bit more. - You can get glucose tollerance test to exclude conceptional diabetes . If it's raised, you may need dietary control/ exercises( walking)as per your obstetrician's advise. Thanks.
