What Are The Symptoms And Treatment For UTI?

Hi, I have a question that it s a little bit embarassing for me but it s giving me a great deal of discomfort in the last week. 10 days ago I woke up with symptoms that I thought are for a UTI. I called my pcp in the evening of that day - it was a Friday and I couldn t make it to the office during work hours- and I was prescribed Cipro 500mg BID for 3 days. By Sat afternoon I started to get rid of the pressure sensation. Next day in the morning though I mast. rubbing my clitoris pretty bad. In the same day in the evening I started having again symptoms of UTI, although I think that the pressure that I feel and make me think I need to go to the bathroom is because the pressure I feel in my clitoris. During this week I saw my pcp, he checked the urine, was sterile, but before we ve got the results he changed the atb to Nitrofurantoin because of the symptoms that continued. By the end of the week I saw an urolog, too and she cannot explain why do I still have symptoms... Is it possible that I confuse UTI symptoms with a bruised clitoris? From the exterior, nothing looks abnormal, or inflammed... I really don t know what to do...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a recurrent urinary tract infection. I suggest to do a urine test to confirm the diagnosis. I also recommend a urine culture to check the bacteria that is causing the symptoms and the antibiotic that can treat it.

Meanwhile, I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the symptoms. I also recommend to drink liquids and especially cranberry juice.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.
