What Are The Symptoms Of Dandruff And Seborrheic Dermatitis?

I have been to three dermatologists in my area for the treatment of dry, red, scaly, itchy, flaky, and recurring patches on my face and been diagnosed with ailment: dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Each treatment was different from the other but all aggravated my skin or inflamed the area more. Topical steroids being the worst. The areas in question are on my mustache area(below nose) and jawline, my right jawline, and above my eyebrows. Although the irritation occurs in the same three spots they are never the same size or shape. They begin as dry reddened areas that slowly begin to itch and then sting. The final stage is the top layer of skin dries up and can be peeled off the surface leaving pinkish sensitive skin beneath. Does this sound like any of the three diagnosis listed above?? If needed I can send pictures of the affected area. None of the dermatologists I saw looked too closely (studied) at my skin nor touched it in any way so I am assuming a picture would suffice in helping figure this matter out. Please help me with this matter as I am unable to visit another dermatologist for a fourth diagnosis. Thank you.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of symptoms of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query

- oil secretion on the skin
- inflammatory response related to psoriasis
- poor hygiene
- particular season.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to use

- Do not scratch your skin and apply corticosteroid cream.

- Take over-the-counter anti-dandruff products, such as shampoo with pyrithione zinc or antifungal ketoconazole.

- Do massage with olive oil.

If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe shampoos or ointments containing hydrocortisone, fluocinolone , oral antifungal like terbinafine or antibacterial like metronidazole .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
