Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis, but have not had any symptons, but I think I am now having some problems, I get severe paids on my lower abdomen, I range from diarrhoa to mild constipation, I do not feel sick. /could this be the start of an attack , what should I do?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of getting diagnosed as diverticulitis- it means inflammation of the diverticuli, the out-pouching of the mucosa of the intestines, usually the large bowel. You say you had no symptoms in past but now have severe pain in lower abdomen, There is associated diarrhea and sometimes mild constipation. This could have been the cause or the symptoms f diverticulitis. Yes this can be the start of the attack. I would advise you the following: Get a CT scan done. tests of blood, urine and stool. get started on a proper long term antibiotic cover, metronidazole for 5 days, probiotic and so on. Have regular check up and get treated till the attack is totally aborted. Have dietary changes as per the advise of your Dietitian.
