Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a few tongue ulcers and terrible burning on my tongue & throat going on 4 weeks. Burning in my tongue driving me crazy! Started 2 weeks after getting off antibiotics for Proteus mirabilis urinary infection. Now I have yellow mucousy burning diarrhea. Reduced to eating yogurt, eggs & mashed potatoes. Anything else burns. Tried Carafate, Mylanta, slippery elm, vitamin b12, folic acid. Now on prednisone. Only relief I have gotten has been from taking a low dose of Xanax. I have history of Crohn s. Also once treated many years ago for h pylori. Could it be a hiatal hernia? Can t get into GI doctor until next month. Any suggestions? Thanks.
1. hiatal hernia diagnosis maybe confirmed by radiological examination. Heartburn and acid reflux are common symptoms
2. You may retest for H.pylori via urea breath test
3. Patients taking prednisone for long period are usually also prescribed a PPI ( nexium / esomeprazole) to prevent gastritis / ulcer. you may discuss with treating physician or GI doctor
4. you may start nexium 40mg once daily before breakfast until you visit your doctor
hope to answer your concern regards
Dr Tayyab Malik
