Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My wife had been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, but when I consulted a Rheumatologist, he suggested a few more tests, including HLA, and concluded that it is not RA but AS. I need to know, how to ensure that the diagnosis is correct and that the right treatment is being provided. I do not intend to say that the diagnosis is incorrect or that I doubt the credibilities of the said Specialist, but I simply intend to be sure that we are not late in the treatment.
Ankylosing spondylitis is common cause leading to squaring of vertebrae. Ankylosing spondylitis typically involve spine and hips with other large joint also. There is reduced chest function in this disease. Stiffness in spine and hip is increased. I will also advise you to repeat blood test like HLA-B27, ESR, and CRP,ACCP.
Till further investigation continue your medication.
If HLA B 27 is positive then diagnosis is confirmed and you can go ahead with treatment.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
