What Are The Symptoms Of Secondary Amenorrhea?

I had mirena in place for approximately three years. During those three years, I had no periods after the initial three months of having the mirena inserted. I had it removed five months ago and still have not gotten a period (not even light spotting, etc). Should I be concerned about this secondary amenorrhea?

Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Mirena coil contains progesterone which causes uterine endometrium atrophy and can lead to prolonged amenorrhea.
Sometimes, after removal of mirena, it takes few months to regenerate the atrophied endometrium, and there will be amenorrhea till then.
However, secondary amenorrhea due to other causes like premature ovarian failure, pituitary dysfunction, uterine abnormalities etc should be ruled out.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get proper examination, investigation and treatment accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
