My 10 year old son was trying to sleep last night and would shake himself awake. It seemed to happen every few minutes and lasted throuhghout the night. He has done this a few other times. My daughter has done this as well. Nothing I tried helped.
I would be sending both your children for an EEG monitor as well as a possible sleep study depending upon what the EEG showed and then, sending them for consultations with a PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGIST. They may have a type of epilepsy called Benign Rolandic Epilepsy or Benign Rolandic Epilepsy with Centro-temporal spikes. If this is what turns out to be the case then, actually, no treatment is necessary and they will stop on their own.
