What Can I Do To Relieve Severe Abdominal Pain While Having IBS With Occasional Constipation?

Hi, this might seem gross or disgusting but it’s painful . I’m diagnosed with IBS and have been for a couple of years now . I usually do get constipation so it’s not a surprise when I’m constipated . I haven’t been constipated for a good while now which is great . But my constipation came back last night and it wasn’t so pleasant to deal with . Today I felt the urge to us the bathroom but I was still constipated and it hurt very bad , in my years of IBS this was definitely a lot painful than other experiences. So I decided to take my IBS pill now I really need to go the bathroom but Ik unable because it hurts down there . It’s coursing a stomach ache and I need to empty my stomach but I need to push in order to do so and it’s way to painful for me to push and I can’t do it . So what do you suggest I do ?

Hello,

Take adequate water and include fiber in your diet for better bowel movement. Avoid taking red meat and food that causes you constipation. Take a laxative at bedtime daily for a week till you are comfortable. Pushing hard can cause anal fissures or worsen hemorrhoids, making everything more painful. Do not push hard, do not strain.

For easy bowel movement, encourage relaxation and wait for the urge to come back. Do sitz bath by sitting in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes. This will relax your pelvic muscles and reduce pain around the rectum. A sedentary lifestyle should be avoided. Do regular walking. Avoid taking trigger foods like processed carbs, dairy, fried food, oily junk food, and packaged food.

Take home-made, nutritious food. Pain can also be due to gastritis; for relief, you can take antacids or PPIs. You should get relief in 2-3 days. But if the abdominal pain becomes sharp and intense, or there's blood, severe bloating, nausea, or vomiting then you are advised to visit ER, you need urgent medical support and treatment.

I hope I have answered your query. Take care.
