What Can Be Done For Muscle Pull?

I had a laparoscopic appendectomy 4 weeks ago and still on pain meds. Today I did some tree trimming and stretched my arms out above my head to reach and over the course of 5 hours I have pain building inky lower left side as if I severely pulled a muscle. Do I need to be concerned or just go back to resting?
