Hello,
The knee joint is surrounded by a capsule/ sac contain synovial fluid which nourishes and lubricate the joint. When the volume of synovial fluid increases in excess due to following causes lead to swollen knees-
1. swelling after an injury lead to ligament/ meniscus tear/ bone fracture.
2. gradual swelling without injury mainly due to osteoarthritis/ rheumatoid arthritis.
3 rapid swelling without injury in infection, gout/ pseudogout.
4. fluid accumulation in bursa known as prepatellar bursitis.
Go for some tests like joint aspiration and microscopic examination, X ray and MRI of knee joint, total blood count, ESR, C reactive protein estimation. Consult an orthopaedician for further management. Take rest and tab. paracetamol for analgesia.
Take care bye.
