Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have friend who is 25 yrs old now and is a male. He is 5 feet 4 inches. Is there any chance that he can grow tall? WWW.WWWW.WW I came across this link and was wondering if it will work at this age. Also please confirm if cycling and going to gym, will help him.
It is unlikely that any further growth will occur at his age.Height is mainly determined by genetics though diet , exercises and illness can play a role.
During childhood and adolescence there is any area at the end of the long bones in the limbs that is involved in adding new bone and therefore increasing length and height.
At the end of adolescence this area stops making new bone and changes so that no further addition is possible.
SOme persons recommend the use of yoga and pilates to improve core muscle strength and posture which may result in optimising the present height.
The height increases due to increase in the length of the bones.
The ends of the bones have a growth plate.
When the growth plate closes, height ceases to increase.
The growth plate closes at the time of puberty.
So, at the age of 25 when an individual has attained puberty, the height will not increase.
Cycling and going to gym will keep your friend fit but will not have any impact on height.
Thanks and take care.
