What Can Be Done To Relieve Constipation In An Infant Suffering From An Oral Thrush?

Hi, my grandson has been diagnosed with thrush. He is three weeks old and has been on Nystatin 2 ml every 6 hours for 2 weeks. The pediatrician wants him on this longer because there are still some white patches in his mouth. My daughter can't sooth him and thinks that he might be constipated. Is constipation a side effect of the drug? What can we do to relieve the constipation if that is the problem? Not sure if this is the problem.

Hi,

It may be a coinciding symptom. Many cases of baby constipation is due to wind or gas. Try some tummy massage & smooth cycling of his legs to help him pass it out. If he is breast fed check your nipples for soreness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
