What Can Be The Reason For Urine To Smell?

Hi

Iam a 46 yr old male, over weight and drink most days (white wine ) about 3 months ago my urine started to smell like a pub urinal only in the morning it is a very bad smell, it does stop when I stop drinking but returns straight away, in 30yrs of drinking this has never happened and I eat healthy but drink upto 2-3 bottles a night, can you explain why this has started now, also I was told I was borderline diabetic.
