What Can Cause A Swollen Vein On The Back Of The Leg?

I recently had an area on the inside of my lower calf on left leg that was red and hard under the skin and warm to the touch. I had an ultrasound to rule out possible blood clot. Negative. Cellulitis. This afternoon suddenly I have a vein that is slightly swollen on back of my left leg just below bend of my leg. Realized it was there because a slightly noticeable throb there.
