Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
.my BP is 155/85 . It has always been 110/70 and started going up 6 months ago. My blood work has come back fine and I just started medication after getting readings of 185/101. Why would my BP change? I am 69 years old
I see you are rightly concerned about your high blood pressure. Actually what happens is with age the walls of the blood vessels become stiff and it losses its ability to relax. It usually happens with age and this type of high BP is called Essential Hypertension. Besides this there are other diseases which leads to high blood pressure like chronic kidney diseases, pheochromocytoma etc. but that usually happens in young ages. Its important you use medication esp starting with calcium channel blocker to avoid any future complications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
