Hi, noticed a bit of blood in my toilet after sitting down and going number 1 and number 2 last week. there was more the first day than there has been since. it happened the next 2 days then stopped. Then I noticed a little bit of blood a few days ago but none since then. I went to the doctor and had a CT scan with and without contrast and they simply stated there was nothing there. I have a urologist appointment set up but its a month away. I was wondering if there is anything I should be worried about that the CT didn't pick up but the Urologist might find? Mainly bladder cancer and the like
Hi. Thanks or your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Blood in urine and stool also indicate the possibility of a general cause like any bleeding disorder like dengue, less platelet or bleeding or clotting disorders. Local causes can be considered but the normal contrast enhanced CT scan say otherwise. Hence you need the following: Test of blood for CBC, bleeding and clotting time, Prothrombine time, serum calcium, liver functions and as needed on clinical evaluation. Tests of urine and stool are also very important. Per-rectal examination and colonoscopy should be done. Urologist will certainly be of help to see for further investigations like cystourethroscopy to get the cause. Bladder cancer that cause bleeding in urine and stool also can be seen on contrast enhanced CT scan .
