Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Please tell us about how to get cured from frequent passage of mucus / pus in stool. Alteast 3 - 4 times in a week mucus which can be seen with a naked eye is coming out in stool and in a day 5-6 times.
Please suggest suitable treatment / medicines which cures the problem permanently.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your stools. There are a number of reasons for mucous in the stools. Most common cause of mucous in the stool is an infection. Infections can be caused by bacteria, viruses and/or parasites. Unfortunately, the treatment is different depending on the cause, and the best way to figure this out is to send analyze your stool sample.
Another cause is something called Irritable Bowel Disease - which can either be Crohn's disease (CD) or Ulcerative Colitis (UC). Both are autoimmune diseases in which the body attacks the gastrointestinal tract. Usually, the first step in diagnosis is a colonoscopy.
Although this probably isn't the answer you're looking for, I'd recommend you see your primary care physician and have a stool sample sent to start with. If this is non-diagnostic, a referral to a gastroenterologist would be prudent.
I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
