What Cause Sharp Pain Above Eyebrow With Slight Swelling?

Hello, My 16 year old daughter has been complaining of a sharp pain above her right eyebrow. It would come and go but over the last 4-5 days it has become a steady pain and goes from a 4 to an 8 when describing the intensity. She says it is very sharp but she has not hit on anything and I cannot see any bruising but it does look slightly swollen.

Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post indicate that your daughter might be having Trigeminal neuralgia.
It occurs due to any pathology in the nerve fibre, as a result of which pain gets transmitted along the course of the nerve.
Management will involve Analgesics+Gabapentin preparations.

In your post, you have not mentioned about history of Hypertension, Diabetes, Thyroid abnormality, etc.
Under such circumstances, investigations like complete blood count, estimation of blood pressure & blood sugar levels and Thyroid profile will be helpful to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.
A CT scan or MRI of brain will also be helpful.

Till then, she should maintain adequate hydration & nutrition status, avoid stress, exercise regularly & practice meditation.

Wishing her a Good Health.
Take care.
