What Cause Swollen Hands In Elderly Woman?

Hi, My 85 year old mother is in a nursing home and her right hand is swollen approx twice the normal size. Doctor says her EKG is normal. What could likely be causing this sympotom. By the way , she has had several strokes over the past 10 years. Thanks!

Hello,
There are many causes for swelling but the biggest concern when it is just on one side is a blood clot. It would be a good idea for her to have an ultrasound and doppler on her right arm to rule out a blood clot.
