What Causes A Birthmark To Peel And Scar?

Hi i have a 5 month old daughter she was born with what i thought to be a birth mark on her finger but in a couple of weeks it pealed off as if it was a scab but she still has the mark from it can anyone tell me what it could be and will the mark be there forever

I have a few possibilities in mind; however, none of them fit the brief description that you provide. I lack being able to see a picture of the mark. If she is doing well otherwise, you may wait until you take her to the doctor for her 6-month well checkup for it to be seen by him/her.
