What Causes A Burning Sensation In Epigastric Region?

I have been experiencing a burning sensation in my epigastric region which has been fluctuating in intensity since yesterday evening about 2 hours after I had dinner. The pain started suddenly, lasted for several minutes, and then disappeared almost as suddenly. It recurred this afternoon a few hours after I had eaten, but this time the pain has persisted for several hours, although waxing and waning in intensity. I feel somewhat nauseous but I have not vomited. Is this likely to be a gastric ulcer? I am 60 years old, female, I don t smoke or drink. I have been taking blood pressure medicine for about 15 years, and I am not overweight.

Hello,
It could be an ulcer or just that you have developed gastritis or reflux. If you are taking any anti-inflammatory medication like motrin or aleve, you need to stop them. Try taking omeprazole (over the counter prilosec) 30 minutes before your largest meal of the day until you can get in to see your doctor
