What Causes A Constant Whooshing Sound In The Left Ear Of An Elderly Person With BP And Diabetes?

I have a whoosing sound in my left ear. My ENT doctor said that nothing can be done about it, I had a hearing test done and is to return to the ENT in January 2018. I have been told that I am listing to the blood flowing through my heart, When I put my finger behind my ear near the upper cheek bone it stops. I have been told that nothing can be done about this. I just don t see that for the rest of my life how ever long that will be that I have to listen to this sound every day. I am a 74 year old black American with type two dibeties and hypertension, both which is under control, I am also attending smoking cessation classes I have a handle on that, is there any help for me

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I reviewed your query and here is my answer.
It can be treated if underlying cause for this is found out and is treated. But as you have seen ENT doctor, so i hope all the causes have been ruled out. As far as treatment of tinnitus is concerned, so he is right. There is no treatment for that. You have to ignore that. You have to get involved with the people, or change your mind or use headphones so that it can be ignored. The more you listen to something else, the more you will ignore it and the more you will feel better.
Hope i answered your question. Feel free to ask if you need any help. Thanks.
