What Causes A Grinding Noise In The Jaw With Stiffness And Pain?
Today I woke up and yawned and I heard grinding noises as I was yawning and it was my jaw. When I tried closing my mouth it hurt and it was tight. I haven't been able to eat without it hurting and when I swallow, laugh, talk, etc it is very sore. Should I go see my doctor or wait it out a bit please help!
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain grinding noise from the jaw joint occurs most commonly due to jaw joint dysfunction known as TMJ/TMD and grinding noise occurs due to dislocation of the articular disc that is present as a soft cushion between two bony ends of the jaw joints.. It causes rubbing of the bony ends of the jaw joint and causes grinding noise along with stiffness and pain..
Consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Panoromic x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
As of now you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and also muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone.. Take a soft diet and also avoid excess mouth opening like while yawning, laughing etc.. Massage the sides of face with round motions of your fingers..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
