What Causes A Hard Lump Near The Incision After An Inguinal Hernia Surgery?

Hi I had an Inguiral hernia that showed no bulge. The Dr would have to feel to find it. Right side. After 25 yrs having it my Dr recommended I get the surgery. I had it last Tuesday 10 days ago. Everything looked alright but yesterday I noticed a hard lump right near the incision - which was horizontal - the hard bulge goes on a 45 degree angle. About 3/4 in wide and 3 inches long. I can t see my Dr until next week. He had emergency surgery yesterday so my visit was put off. Should I worry? I m going away on 1/28 for 9 days.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of an Inguinal hernia that showed no bulge on right side. After 25 years was recommended surgery, and you got is operated on last Tuesday, 10 days ago. Noticed a hard lump near the incision, which was horizontal, the hard lump goes 45 degree angle and about 3/4 inch wide and inches long.
Such a long thing may not be a due to recurrence of a hernia but a cord structure that might have got inflamed as these are well connected by loose areolar planes.
I would advise you to get examined by another surgeon to confirm what it is and then go ahead with medical treatment and whatever can be done.
Till then take rest.
Take laxatives if constipation.
No weight lifting.
Continue anti-inflammatory medicines
