What Causes A Heart Shaped Uterus During 18 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

Hello, I am 18 weeks pregnant today and I have been told I have a "slight heart shaped uterus", then I was told it is an "arcuate/bicornate" shape. I don't think they really know what MU it is...The baby is on my right side and implantation is on the far side and the placenta is in the posterior position. How do I know if the baby will have enough room to grow properly? Should I be seeing a special type of OB-GYN? Should I be seeing a high risk Dr? My family physician and current OBGYN don't seem to say anything about my condition...most of the info I have gotten is from bugging the radiologist and surfing the. This is my first pregnancy and I just want to know what is going on....Thanks!

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Arcuate uterus is a minor anomaly in the uterus and has enough room for the fetus to grow.
Bicornuate uterus is the developmental anomaly in which the the two parts of uterine cavity do not join and there are 2 cavities. In this case, the fetus has less space to grow and there are chances of abnormal position of the fetus, preterm delivery and second trimester abortion.
I would suggest you to consult a high risk pregnancy specialist and get properly treated.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
