What Causes A Line On The Skin In The Spine Area?

My wife has a small 2 inch line on the skin covering her spine. No pain, not defined, about 1/4 inch wide. She says no trauma and no pain. She does have a history of lower back pain and possible fusing of her spine to her shelf of the hips 1/2 forward. I will ask about itching or dermatitus. Thanks.
