What Causes A Mass Lesion In The Lung And Persistent Cough?

hi, my mother is 65 years old and has recently been diagnosed to have a mass lesion in her lung on CT. She has lost her appetite and become quite weak. What further tests are necessary to get the dreaded element of cancer out of mind? She has been having cough for the past 6 months or so. What treatment do you suggest at this stage?
