What Causes A Painful Lump At The Anal Opening?

Good evening, About two days ago, I had a bowel movement. While I was sitting on the toilet, it seemed as though my anus was stretching to the point where it was getting painful. Since then, I have been having pains, either when I am sitting down or when I try to hold back a bowel (I don t know what it is called exactly, but sometimes when I do have a bowel and can t make it to a toilet, I try to pull it back in). When I looked at it further, it seems as though there is a lump of some sort, just outside the right side of my anus, on my right buttock. It seems as though this lump was pushed out from the inside of my anus and is causing all the pain. Is this normal and if so, how can I relieve myself of the pain? I think last time this happened to me, I simply put soap on my finger and pushed it back inside, but this time, that doesn t seem to be working.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

By your complaints, the swelling which is appearing in the anal region seems to be evolving perianal abscess.

You didn’t mention that did you have any recent episodes of fever, if it is associated with fever it is mostly an abscess if it is an abscess it can be treated by antibiotics if it is in an evolving stage if it is a formed abscess you must undergo incision and drainage procedure.

If it is not associated with fever. It may also be haemorrhoids if it is haemorrhoids better to undergo hemorrhoidectomy.

For symptomatic relief, you may use Anovate gel and sitz bath thrice daily.

Sitz bath- take warm water in the tub, put 10-20 ml of dettol or any antiseptic solution and must sit in it for 10-15mins.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhaskar Reddy , General Surgeon
