What Causes A Painless Growth On The Temple?

Hello, my daughter, (an 8 year old twin), seemingly out of nowhere has developed a visible protrusion on her right temple. It s firm, fixed and non-painful. It would seem to be a preauricular cyst, but there is no pitting , and palpates deeply, rather than superficially. Beginning just slightly above/at the tragus and extending directly outward about an inch toward the cheekbone, it lays over the temple. This has only come to our attention in the last few days, and seems quite large to have not been noticed until now. No other symptoms or causations are present. Is this a likely site for a malignancy?? We have an appt. scheduled, but for now...worried sick. Thank you.

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi..this seems like a dermoid cyst as it is occurring at the junctional area of 2 bones of the skull. Nothing need to be worried as it is only a recent phenomenon and the kid's daily activities are not getting disturbed because of it.
