What Causes A Pocket Of Phlegm On One Side Of My Throat Post-tonsillectomy?

Two months post-tonsillectomy, I m 41 yrs. old. I still have a funky, almost metallic, taste in my mouth and constant post-nasal drip-- feels like a pocket of phlegm on one side of my throat ALL THE TIME. My doc gave me a prescription nasal spray and said to rinse w/salt water 2-4x per day. Did so for 3 weeks, no change. What can I do??

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello, Tonsillectomy per se will not cause phlegm. You may be having recurrent sinus infections. Post nasal drip causes taste disturbance. Evaluation for sinus pathology by imaging and endoscopy will give a diagnosis. If sinuses are clogged, they have to be cleared.
