What Causes A Positive Pregnancy Test After Suction Evacuation?

hello doctor!!my name is pearl...on the 07/04/2012 i went to hospital because i was bleeding severly with contractions and was told that i lost the baby..i thought i was 7 weeks pregnant but the doctors kept on saying its an early pregnancy so i was a bit confused then asked them how was that possible but never got an answer..on the 09/04/2012 i was discharged after they cleaned me with some suction valves or whatever they call it.i have tested that am pregnant again after 3weeks so i need to know the possibilities cause i still havent gone to my periods?

Hi there

It is possible that the suction evactuation has left some retained products of placenta which may still be attached to the endrometrium of your uterus. Pregnancy tests detect Beta-HCG which is a hormone secreted by the placenta. Even if the foetus is removed , retained products may very well continue secreting.

My suggestion would be to urgently get an Ultrasound scan done to detect if any products were left behind.
