What Causes A Rash And Metallic Taste On The Tongue While On Clarithromycin?

My daughter is away at college having her last final tomorrow and is on clarithromycin (500MG) for walking pneumonia. She has developed a rash and a metal taste today. She does not want to go to the ER since she has an exam in the morning. I've told her not to take more of the medication. Does she need to get to a doctor?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your daughter had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic Clarithromycin given to you leading rashes and metallic taste in mouth is also a side effect of medication..
It is one of the common presentation of allergy to antibiotic that leads to rashes and itching..
She should stop taking Clarithromycin and consult her treating Physician who can change the antibiotics..
Also to relieve the rashes anti allergics like Levocetrizine can be given..
Doing cool compresses and applying Calamine lotion can also help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
