Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking Crestor , 5mg for three months, I have developed a rash on my neck, a rash between my like a heat rash normally associated with very hot weather, and a kind of itchy feeling all over my body, tried Lipitor prior to Crestor and that left me wore out, fatigued, went several years after Lipitor before starting Crestor, any ideas? Thanks Gary.
The distribution of the rash (most prominent in sun-exposed areas - around the neck) is in favor of a phototoxic reaction which is much more common than a photoallergic one.
In any case, Crestor will probably have to be stopped. An antihistamine may help with the symptoms. Since both Lipitor and Crestor seem to be causing side effects you'd better avoid using them in the future.
Perhaps you can try an alternative statin like Simvastatin or Pitavastatin. Remember to consult your doctor before proceeding with any changes to your regimen!
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,

What Causes A Rash On The Neck While On Crestor?
Hello, Any drug may cause an allergic reaction. Some drugs may also cause a photoallergic or photosensitivity (phototoxic) reaction. The distribution of the rash (most prominent in sun-exposed areas - around the neck) is in favor of a phototoxic reaction which is much more common than a photoallergic one. In any case, Crestor will probably have to be stopped. An antihistamine may help with the symptoms.
