What Causes A White Sore In The Back Of The Mouth?

I have a very small white sore with an indent in the middle (almost like a cut) towards the back of my mouth above the gums of my teeth. It is very painful and swollen, but I have noticed the swelling and pain going Down since treating it with orajel and listerine. I have zero family history of oral cancer, am young, and have never used tobacco/ drank. However, my mother has struggled with canker sores, so I think it may be that, though she smokes.

Hi
The area you have discribed is typical of bite lesion/traumatic bite ulcer . Please check if the ulcer is in the line of your back upper and lower teeth closing /occluding ?? if yes ,visit a dentist to get the outer sharp edges of the the teeth smoothened ,as this may be the cause of constant trauma and the same explains the indentations when something sharp keeps constantly rubbing over the same area in function . Also i am assuming you not having any fuid discharge from the area as you have'nt mentioned it . The medications mentioned by you will give only temporary relief since the main reason causing this problem may still be present . Since you mentioned your mother's history of canker sores we cannot rule out you developing a similar tendency. Keep regular check on your diet intake with adequate nutrition .Some cases of canker sores are caused by an underlying health condition, such as an impaired immune system; nutritional problems, such as vitamin B-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency; or gastrointestinal tract disease. keep a tab on those.Hopefully this was helpful . Take care .
