What Causes Abdominal Bloating, Loose Stools And Mild Fever?

I was recently ill with diahrrea and vomiting for 1 1/2 days. Things have calmed down now for a week or so, but appetite comes and goes. After a meal last night (homemade soup with barley, carrots, onions, celery, red cabbage, radishes, zucchini, rice pasta and ground meat) I have had bloating and not able to pass gas, hurts down on the left lower side of torso, stools are loose, no nausea but running fever 100.7 now. No appetite either.

Hello,

I read your message carefully and understood your medical problem.

I see you are experiencing episodes of nausea, diarrhea, and fever that come and go immediately after having a homemade soup last night. This is suggesting food poisoning.

Usually, we recommend to drink plenty of warm water if food poisoning is suspected. But, this is done within a couple of hours after consuming the bad food.

It will take a few more days until the bowels will get back to normal function again.
Should :
- increase fluids intake especially plain water with ORS, juice or soups
- have light meals (BRAT diet is recommended : banana, rice, apple sauce, toast)
- take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- take antacids and tasectan or pepto bismol for diarrhea
- simethicone can help with gas, lemon soda can help too

If symptoms won't get better in the following days, should consult with your physician to run stool culture and stool examination to rule out more serious diagnosis.
